Tactile Graphics on the Fly

Workshop type: Hands-on, Make-n-Take, or demonstration, as requested

Time required: 2 hours, 3-4 hours, 1 hour (respectively)

Description: Designed for itinerant personnel who support students who are blind or visually impaired, this workshop will focus on techniques and materials to quickly produce tactile and visual graphics often needed in a school setting. Development of "stock" from which to draw in quickly making graphics will be discussed, as well as time-saving techniques. Workshop can be offered as a Make-n-Take format, in which participants have the opportunity to begin building their stock of materials to use in producing graphics "on the fly".

Outcomes: Participants will

  • learn how to plan ahead for the graphics students will probably need
  • learn what equipment, software, hardware and materials can be used for graphics on the fly
  • produce graphics using combination methods
  • learn to provide graphics by adapting existing models or graphics
  • have the opportunity to produce materials for stock
